Funs with the Nuns

It's so great to finally be able to sit back and enjoy the show after so many vacation days, sick days (don't tell), early mornings, and late nights.  The many volunteers are really enjoying sitting back and enjoying the show in a space they helped build. Even the inspectors and fire marshalls were impressed with what so many did.

If you haven't seen the show yet, hopefully this picture will wet your appetite and we will see you soon. If you have seen it, come back. Sister Hubert has some new jokes!  ;)

One week!

It's been a bit since the last post, but we've been mega-busy as you can imagine! We've been fortunate enough to have a great architect and a new contractor team working with us to get things over the line for the opening of "Nunsense 2" on the 30th. The folks at Margins have been so understanding with the construction noise and mess (which we have been cleaning up :) ).

Oh, and here's Gordon's good side :)

Progress update!

After many MANY conversations and visits with the architect and meetings with planners and fire marshalls, we have moved forward.  Believe it or not, the following discovery made us very happy:
Yep, that's a block wall.  What does that mean?  A bunch of savings and something that makes the architect and fire marshall very happy.  The construction effort just got a lot easier believe it or not.  Who would have thought that hitting your head against the wall would be a good thing?!

We still have things to move from the old space to the new space while we continue the transformation of the space.  If you are interested in helping move, please let Dawn know (dawn.berlo@newlondontheatre.org ... she's coordinating the move).  Also, we will need some strong folks to bring down the stuff from the tech booth and on Saturday (next all-hands move day) we will need a flat-bed trailer to move the last of the big stuff.  One more big push!

Meanwhile, our handy-dandy construction folks have begun demolition and construction of the new walls.  This is exciting!!!!  We're working on the picture gallery, so lots of pictures of the progress to come!

Moving moving moving

Today we had another work day and boy did we work.  We'll be putting up some pictures later, but wanted to give a quick thanks to our volunteers for the day.  So, thanks to the whole VandenOever clan, the Spangler-Behret clan (including Jason!), Jesse (who is an entire work crew on his own), Harry, Brian, Nancy, Bob, John & Katie, John & Dawn, Rebekah Breck (gotta put the last name as we have several Rebekah's), Ellen & Gordon, and the porter staff at Margins Charity Thrift and Variety Mall.  Check the Facebook page for information on future work days!  Don't see a date listed but want to see if you can come help?  Email Dawn at dawn.berlo@newlondontheatre.org!

OK...maybe one picture of Jason with Jesse's best side :)

First Renderings of the New Space

After many conversations with actors, architects, theatre professionals, and about a dozen or so other folks, we finally came up with a concept.  The things we could all agree on were:
  • The stage needed to be about the same size as the current stage
  • Wings...definitely want wings
  • Someplace to get dressed in climate-controlled goodness.
  • A makeup table
  • A green room...someplace for everyone to relax (and for the little ones to have a place to keep them occupied while not on stage)
  • Storage...lots of storage
Believe it or not, with the way the space was laid out already (and the fact that it's about double the size of the old space), this is all completely achievable with very little construction.

So, here is the first rendering we did (gotta love open-source software).  As the architect finishes his own drawings while making sure all the proper codes are followed, we may have other renderings that will be slightly different.  But we think you will agree, this will be a great place to continue making magic happen for the community.

Excited?  We are!

Rendering #1: 2 dressing rooms, makeup counter, green room on the bottom right.
See all that on the left?  Storage and costumes!!!!!
